The Westin was built in 1924 after being on South Main Street for over one hundred years. After the Great Depression, it started to get a lot of traction from local residents and quickly became known as “Carolina’s Finest.” By the mid 1950s, the motel industry boomed and made city hotels obsolete, causing the hotel to be foreclosed from 1971 to 1986.
